'Sometimes, you gotta go back to actually move forward.'

In his third Saturday Night Live hosting gig recently, Jim Carrey took aim at Matthew McConaughey's series of commercials for Lincoln's MKC sport utility vehicle, pondering some of life's deeper questions.

The running bit is actually a spoof of a spoof – the Lincoln advertisements are a play on McConaughey's True Detective character Rust Cohle. Carrey manages to pull it off, though, wondering why McConaughey's first act after winning an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club was to star in car commercials.

"Sometimes you gotta go back to actually move forward," Carrey said in the spoof. "I mean, take a big step back. Like go from winning an Oscar to doing a car commercial."

Comedian and SNL star Kenan Thompson even made a surprise appearance in one of the three commercials, posing as actor Dennis Haysbert (24). — Reuters
