Unfortunately (or perhaps, for some, fortunately) for Malaysians, Netflix is not available in our country at the moment.
Adam Sandler of Happy Gilmore and Punch Drunk Love is to act as producer and leading man for a set of four films to air exclusively on online streaming service Netflix.
Netflix explained the wisdom of its agreement by revealing that Sandler's films are among the most viewed by the digital network's subscribers, both in the US and abroad.
With Sandler currently commited to July 2015 alien invasion comedy Pixels, there's no detail on the type of films Sandler and his Happy Madison production company will serve up, though the 48-year-old actor has proven his ability to carry silly and serious projects alike.
Further, the internally produced quartet may aid Netflix in circumventing online broadcasting law in one of its newest territories, France, inhibiting it from showing films less than three years after theatrical release.
The announcement comes after Netflix teamed up with The Weinstein Company to organise the simultaneous release of a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel through the Netflix streaming service and IMAX cinemas.
That was a move that earned the ire of major players in the US IMAX space, cutting the film's potential distribution by 60% by refusing to show it on their screens, a consequence that wholly suits Netflix if it means movie fans turn to the digital entertainment provider instead. — AFP Relaxnews
