The hottest live venue in town just got hotter with a sterling series of shows in celebration of its Sweet 16.

Is time ticking too fast? Perhaps, but at least there's been quality every step of the way, what with the liveliest of live joints in the Klang Valley celebrating its 16th anniversary this year.

Yup, No Black Tie celebrates Sweet 16 like no other with a slew of acts, catering to those who gladly stroke their chins while being entertained and others who are infallible in their need to applaud.

There's a slice of the pie for all. Aussie global jazz proponent Albare swings on the stage on Oct 16 and 17, with an eclectic band in tow.

Steely Dan fans might want to make a date on Oct 18 with JVBand, which will pay a no-holds-barred tribute to the American jazzers. Brainchild Suflan Shamsuddin can easily distinguish his Walter Becker from his Donald Fagen, so there's bound to be a sumptuous serving of blues, jazz, funk and soul.

The WVC, featuring Arnau Garoffe Farras, on Oct 20, should prick the ears of fans of blowers – it's a saxes and clarinets galore.

Of course, NBT has always served the local talent pool and a sweet bunch get to tread on its hallowed stage this month. R&B a cappella outfit Back 2 Basixx and rock band An Honest Mistake raise the wick on Oct 21 while Sachie Amira, a vocalist with pedigree in the local circuit and the Hady Afro Trio stake a claim on Oct 22.

The Pity Cabrera Trio, led by pianist Pity Cabrera, has taken France by storm, and storm the stage the likes of Cabrera, his bassist Bruno Schorp and drummer Tran Vuan Traat will do on Oct 24 & 25 with a sound that merges jazz, classical and traditional Cuban music.

Wonder what music might sound like if it were based on true-to-life experiences? It seems the Toro Cheng Trio's Pianistic Wolverine album launch on Oct 28 might have all the answers. The piano, bass and drum trio have tunes like Profoundness Of Nature, Toothache and Destination's Seeking to put proof in the pudding.

NBT's Sweet 16 celebrations are rounded off with GrooveJunction's one-night only performance on Oct 30, featuring the big voice herself, Elvira Arul. For more info, visit noblacktie.com.my.
