Out of their league
There's really no other way to put this gently. Save for its maddeningly catchy lead single Out Of My League, the sophomore studio effort from this Los Angeles-based six-piece seems like a lengthy repository of fillers.
The issue lies really in the band's misguided attempt at 1980s-nostalgia. Instead of sounding retro cool, the cuts on More Than Just A Dream come across more retro blah. It doesn't help that Michael "Fitz" Fitzpatrick and the gang are ever so inclined to get listeners to shout it out loud with their variation of booming choruses.
It should have propelled us to get on our feet and sing along, if only the lyrics are not so frustratingly indistinct and the vocals so annoyingly humdrum.
